Jason on premonitions

Jason: It’s big in the US military. It’s not formalized in any way, but there are stories about people driving through neighbourhoods where an IED’s been planted and they can sense that something’s off, and then deviate from what they’re gonna do in some way. And it turns out yeah there is an IED laying on the road. And it’s, I think, more than just getting lucky. There is- there are circumstances where you can sense that something bad is about to happen, even if you can’t articulate why you know that something bad’s going to happen.

Vic: Do you think their subconscious has noticed that the ground’s been dug up recently or like there’s some kind of visual element or…

Jason: It’s even less than that. Some of the indicators- look for the patterns of behaviour in the people in the neighbourhood that you’re driving through, because lot of times the locals will know if something’s been buried in the road. It’s not necessarily visual, but just something atmospheric. And, I mean, this is not something I know a lot about, but we’re pattern recognizing animals. If you’re used to seeing one thing and there’s something off with the picture, even if you might not consciously understand what it is that’s off. There’s something in the human cognitive wiring that allows us to notice when there are these subtle indicators of, you know, something being off baseline.
